Melbourne based artist Mary Edquist resumed her painting career in 2004 after a long delay. She has worked consistently since that time to establish herself as an artist and has created a large body of work. Her works show a committed new voice and well organized impulsiveness. She has exhibited previously in 2006 , 2007  and 2009. Paper, Scissors, Paint  is Mary’s second solo exhibition. Her works hang in many private collections.

Mary’s drive is to resolve a physical experience into a celebration of transformation. There are no unutilised spaces in her works and the whole resonates leaving the viewer with a feeling of immediacy; that the picture has only just been finished. Her works explore themes based on landscape, movement and space and she works in a variety or mediums, in acrylic and oil paints and also industrial and household paints and finishes which she uses extensively and to great effect. She has also produced a range of collages with paper and board. She seeks to give life to blank spaces and in her works she manages to repeat and yet not repeat herself. She loves colour because she delights in the natural world’s abundance and the largesse of someone so bold and unashamed is difficult to resist.
