LA MAMA AND FORTYFIVEDOWNSTAIRS JOIN FORCES FOR ENCORE
ENCORE is an exciting new creative partnership between two of Melbourne’s thriving independent performing arts venues; La Mama and fortyfivedownstairs.
The inaugural ENCORE program will allow audiences a chance to see two of La Mama’s finest 2013 productions in a return season at fortyfivedownstairs.
Mein Kampf by George Tabori (Directed by Beng Oh), and My Life in the Nude written and performed by Maude Davey will play from July, 2014.
Through ENCORE, La Mama and fortyfivedownstairs are committed to delivering must-see theatre, and extending the lives of outstanding productions.
For over a decade fortyfivedownstairs founder and artistic director Mary Lou Jelbart has hoped that productions could move from La Mama to fortyfivedownstairs in order to allow artists to extend the lives of significant works, and to bring those works to a wider audience.
La Mama and fortyfivedownstairs have agreed in principle to continue ENCORE next year and beyond. Both companies are looking forward to finding shows with similar audience responses, and critical reactions.
