Codgers sequel raises the bar

The late Don Reid was a stalwart of theatre, film and television. A founding member of Ensemble Theatre, Australia’s longest continually running theatre company, and a performer with most of the country’s major companies, he was also known for his play Codgers, written in part as a tribute to his fellow older actors.

March will see the world premiere of his prequel to the work, named after another icon of Australian popular culture. Young & Jackson is set in the pub of the same name during the last days of World War II, and stars Charlie Cousins, Sam Duncan, Jacob Machin and Gabrielle Scawthorn under the direction of Wayne Harrison.

The season opens March 5 at fortyfivedownstairs.
