Nicholls’ powerful and expressive wood carvings, paintings and prints, combine figurative elements with pared-back minimalist forms to produce artworks that speak with a unique personal strength. He has developed a highly personal vocabulary using the motifs of the hand, shield, bird and human figure evoking the motifs of ancestral tribal art, that creates a dialogue on the environment, society and the spirit that resides within all of us.
