Triumph
Inspired by real stories of fake victims, Triumph is an absurd and deeply unsettling take on politics of struggle in the post-9/11 world.
…a short intense wonderfully realized work – Australian Stage
Imaginative fireworks go off…the concept (visual, aural, semiotic) sustains the work beautifully – The Australian
…thought provoking script…Triumph confirms why van de Geer was named by Melbourne Writers Festival as one of ‘30 under 30’ best Melbourne Writers – Theatre Press
In the aftermath of a terrorist attack, a young woman becomes a hero. From beneath the smoke and rubble of anonymity she emerges with a story of struggle so inspiring that the world can’t help but listen. If only it were true. Survivors become saints; drop-outs become poster-boys; mothers parade their sick children in search of a spotlight. Inspired by real stories of fake victims, Triumph is an absurd and deeply unsettling take on the politics of struggle in the post-9/11 world.
This bold new play brings a distinctive lens and cruel humour to bear on a world that makes celebrities out of victims, only to watch them fall apart.
