Tristan Lee and Gintaute Gataveckaite return to fortyfivedownstairs with a recital featuring romantic piano masterpieces.

The program will commence with Tristan Lee performing Liszt’s 2 Legends, containing some of Liszt’s most inspired and pictorial piano writing. These are followed by Gintaute Gataveckaite’s interpretation of Schumann’s passionate and dramatic Piano Sonata Op. 22. The concert will conclude with music from Tchaikovsky’s ballet, Sleeping Beauty, ingeniously arranged as a virtuosic piano duet by Rachmaninoff.

Gintaute Gataveckaite is an award-winning pianist from Lithuania. She is currently living in Melbourne, where she is enjoying a busy performing schedule, and studying a Masters of Music at the University of Melbourne under Prof Ian Holtham. Miss Gataveckaite is a graduate of the Royal Northern College of Music, Manchester U.K., having gained a Bachelor of Music Performance (with Distinction) in 2012 under the tutelage of Graham Scott.

Miss Gataveckaite, acclaimed both locally and internationally, has performed regularly throughout Australia, the U.K., Europe, and China as a soloist, chamber musician and concerto soloist. Highlights include performances at the Wigmore Hall and the Southbank Centre in London, Melbourne Recital Centre, Guangzhou Opera House, Shanghai Daning Theatre, and many more.

Tristan Lee is an Australian pianist rapidly gaining international recognition for his distinctive style and musicianship. Recent highlights have included performances of concertos by Mozart, Beethoven, Brahms, Grieg and Rachmaninoff; and solo recitals throughout UK, Italy, Lithuania, France, the Netherlands, Cuba, China and Australia.  Widely sought as a chamber musician he has appeared twice at the Wigmore Hall, London to critical acclaim. As a keen interpreter of contemporary music, he regularly performs music of the present day and has given numerous world premieres of works by leading British and Australian composers.

After completing his formal studies in Europe, Tristan Lee has been mentored by Leslie Howard and Benjamin Frith, and between 2012 and 2014 he undertook a period of study with renowned French pianist, François-Frédéric Guy in Paris. Tristan Lee is currently completing a PhD at the Melbourne Conservatorium of Music, University of Melbourne, where he also holds the positions of Piano Teacher and Academic Assistant.
