Jason Robert Brown’s acclaimed 2001 musical, The Last Five Years, returns to Melbourne with an all-star duo of two time Helpmann award winning Verity Hunt-Ballard (Sweet Charity, Mary Poppins) and Josh Piterman (CATS, West Side Story).
Jamie (Piterman), an up-and-coming writer, struggles to balance his sudden success with his increasingly tumultuous love life, while Cathy (Hunt-Ballard), an aspiring actress, deals with the frustrations of her own career while watching her husband from the sidelines in this story of two twenty-somethings who fall in – and out – of love over the course of a five year relationship.

Verity Hunt-Ballard has fast become one of Australia’s most versatile leading ladies. Graduating from WAAPA in 2003, Verity is known for her award winning performance as Mary Poppins in Cameron Mackintosh’s smash hit musical of the same name for which she received a Helpmann Award for Best Female Actor in a Musical, a Green Room Award for Best Female Artist in a Leading Role in Music Theatre, and nominations for the Sydney Theatre Award, Best Performance by an Actress in a Musical and a Glug Award nomination, Best Female Actor in Music Theatre – Mary Poppins.
In 2014 Verity won her second Helpmann Award for Best Female Actor in a Musical for her standout performance as ‘Charity Hope Valentine’ in Luckiest Productions’ Sweet Charity. In 2015 Sweet Charity opened at the Sydney Opera House and toured Melbourne and Canberra. Her performance again drew critical acclaim, with Verity winning both a Sydney Theatre Award and a Green Room Award.
Josh Piterman is both a successful fitness entrepreneur and an award winning performing artist in musical theatre. He grew up with a passion for sport, but his passion for entertaining and singing took him to The University of Ballarat Arts Academy where he graduated with a Bachelor of Arts (Music Theatre) in 2006.
His musical theatre credits include playing Bustopher Jones/Gus/Growltiger in the 2016 season of Cats (Green Room Award for Best Supporting Actor in A Musical 2015) Edward in Willy Russell’s Blood Brothers; Corny Collins in the UK tour of Hairspray; Ramon Gutierrez in An Officer And A Gentleman; Michael in Grease 2; and The Caliph in Kismet for The Production Company.
