… a visual journey through abstraction, amorphic forms, dimensional models, and demarcated spaces.
I am scattering like light is a new series of paintings by Marion Harper. The exhibition proposes a visual journey through abstraction, amorphic forms, dimensional models, and demarcated spaces.
Harper’s oil paintings on wooden board are a contemporary interpretation of modern abstraction, harking back to Bauhaus sensibilities.
Three-dimensional space collides with flat space, alongside geometric candy pigments and organic forms, resulting in illuminated painting scattering like light.
Marion Harper is a multidisciplinary artist based in Melbourne, Australia.
Marion has exhibited extensively in Australia and New Zealand in galleries and institutions including Centre for Contemporary Photography, Monash University, Linden New Art and Teststrip.
Marion has also worked with the Melbourne Fringe Festival, Melbourne University’s Melbourne International Biennial, and Experimenta Media Arts. She has tutored at RMIT and Swinburne University. She was the recipient of an Australia Council grant for a Multimedia Residency in France.
I am scattering like light proposes a visual journey through abstraction, amorphic forms, dimensional models, and demarcated spaces. Playing with alchemical metaphors – dissolving, coagulating, amalgamating, and precipitating – the works explore variegated points of focus, perspective and spatial depth.
Geometries become specimens in a ‘cabinet of curiosity’ and bodily forms a vessel for transformation. Embracing both the irrational and the cogent, objects of pure perception and other-worldly spirits, I worked towards the ‘philosopher’s stone’ / an illuminated painting scattering like light.
