This is a recording of a live Zoom broadcast performance held on Sunday 14 March 2021, and the final of five recitals in a series curated by Coady Green at fortyfivedownstairs, which featured some of Melbourne’s brightest stars of classical and contemporary performance including Collide, Solstice Trio and the Rathdowne Quartet.
Australian pianist Green and British pianist Smith both had successful concert and teaching careers in London before relocating to Australia several years ago. In Australia, they are the only pianists to have performed the six Hungarian Rhapsodies that Liszt prepared for four hands from the orchestral versions. Here, they add the two additional Rhapsodies Liszt prepared for four hands, making the first complete Australian performance of this dazzlingly virtuosic set of pieces, known for their fiendish technical demands.
