Belongings pile up as an aging mother, her high achieving daughter, pet cockatiel, and case manager negotiate their way to an important inspection.
Genevieve Picot, one of Australia’s most beloved actresses features alongside Sophia Constantine and Sandra Fiona Long in this darkly humorous new Australian work, which candidly reveals some of the underlying trauma of hoarding. The play had its first season in the Big West Festival in 2015 where it was developed with research from hoarding professionals and alongside several stages of creative development with La Mama Theatre.
Both experimental and true to life, Birdcage Thursdays is about relationships, people and how we love, particularly when we’re broken by the world inside and out.
Supported by Creative Victoria, Helen MacPherson Smith Trust, Ballarat Council, City of Greater Geelong, The Potato Shed, Stratford Courthouse and For the Crowded House. First created through the Big West Festival 2015 Newest program with support by the Australia Council for the Arts Presenters Fund.
