Appropriately, for his 88th birthday, this will be the 8th special celebration of poetry and music for a treasured friend of fortyfivedownstairs, Barry Jones AC. And appropriately for a former Federal Minister for Science, this year’s celebration will be a live Zoom event.
Over the years, the celebration of Barry Jones’ birthday has become a marvellous opportunity for us to get together and indulge in an evening of poetry and music performed by his friends. An extraordinarily well-informed lover of the arts (and of so much else), Barry lets us know his favourite poems but is not averse to surprises, presented by his friends in a program curated by Board Member Julian Burnside.
We’re excited to announce this year’s program will include a performance by Australian singer-songwriter, Paul Kelly. He will be joined by a superb line up of readers including Julian Burnside, Max Gillies, Emily Goddard, Jillian Murray, Brian Walters and Arnold Zable and a performance by Flinders Quartet cellist, Zoe Knighton.
Please bring along something to drink so we can raise a glass together for Barry’s birthday!
