Barry Jones is most often described as a “polymath”, alternatively a “Renaissance Man” – and we don’t know anyone who fits the definitions better. A former Minister in the Hawke Government, his interests are extraordinarily wide ranging, and his deep love and encyclopaedic knowledge of poetry and music inspired us to hold a birthday celebration almost a decade ago. It was so enjoyable we’ve been doing it ever since.

Last year we were devastated when it appeared impossible to hold the celebration due to the lockdown but streaming came to the rescue, and instead of selling out all 120 seats, the virtual audience numbers were estimated at more than 400 friends and admirers.

This year the breadth of his interests and friendships will be reflected in another fascinating online celebration with appearances from actor Jillian Murray to former PM Malcolm Turnbull, cellist Zoe Knighton to Nobel laureate Peter Doherty and many more.
