The fortyfivedownstairs Artist in Residence Programme 2017 aims to foster the creation and development of new contemporary art in Melbourne. The residency will support the career development and exposure of the resident artist, as well as engaging audiences in contemporary art practice.

We are happy to announce that Rehgan De Mather is the recipient of the 2017 Artist Residency. Rehgan is the third artist to take up the residence in our studio.

Rehgan’s innovative creative practice shifts between chaos and order. He is driven by a desire to create, construct and connect, ultimately forming a personal iconography inspired by his travels.

Rehgan studied Visual Arts at Monash University, earning a BVA in 2001. He is represented in various private collections in Australia, Singapore, Ireland, UK and USA, as well as in public collections at Gippsland Art Gallery and Cowwarr Art Space.

Open Studio Day, 6 May 2017

To celebrate the beginning of our 2017 Artist in Residence Program, we’re having an Open Studio Day!
 
Rehgan will be in on Saturday 6 May to have a chat with gallery visitors and show them around his studio space, located at the back of our Large Gallery. This will be a great opportunity for the public to see and engage with a “real life artist” working in their studio space.
