Fortyfivedownstairs’ inaugural Festival of Words and Music kicked off on Monday and while the two-week program of events is heavily skewed towards the melodic, a one-off performance by actor John Stanton will whet the appetites of fans of Shakespeare and Marlowe. And When He Falls threads together some of the sharpest monologues of the Elizabethan era to trace the 300-year history of the Plantagenet kings, the last of whom, Richard III, recently had another moment in the sun when his bones were discovered in Leicester. Stanton’s own history with the Bard has included a lauded production of Julius Caesar at MTC and a Helpmann Award nomination for his turn as Prospero in a production by the same company. And When He Falls plays the venue at 45 Flinders Lane on Thursday, with details at fortyfivedownstairs.com or 9662 9966.
