I started making artist’s books on my dining room table during Melbourne’s second lockdown, in July 2020, because I couldn’t get to my studio. 396 days later, and I have now produced over 150 books.
This particular work, Unravel again, was made during the current lockdown, #6. It explores and reflects ideas about cycles, the interconnection between time, events, people and places. I was also trying to cheer myself up by using vivid colours to offset the dark winter days of lockdown.
The recurring motif of circles in my work comes from my Indonesian and Chinese heritage. I am driven by the creative inspiration just as much as I thrive on developing technical skills to push the boundaries of different physical media.
