I painted Lake Mungo in fanciful, bright colours during a cold winter lockdown in Melbourne. Camping in the vast semi desert at Mungo under a dazzling expanse of stars can bring about a strong awareness of time and space.

The Ngyiampaa, Mutthi Mutthi and Southern Paakantyi people live here today and are descendants of those who thrived on the shores of a lush, green and very different Lake Mungo 42,000 years ago. I find this a staggering time frame and an inspirational story of resilience.
