Alone they are restless and disgruntled but together they are a force to be reckoned with; the masters of their world. But their reality is fragile and eventually the ‘real world’ intervenes forcing them to face the consequences of their actions; consequences they are not ready to bear. \nCast includes: Marisa Matear\, Claudia Hruschka and Daniela Farinacci \nToo Close to the Sun by Susie Anderson – Friday 23 September\nDaedelus said to his son Icarus\,\nBeware ! Don’t fly too close to the sun\nBut Icarus soared higher and higher until all that finally remained\nwere feathers floating on the waiting sea below. \nToo Close To The Sun is based on the Icarus Myth and the real and imagined lives of Amelia Earhart\, Nancy Bird Walton and Gaby Kennard\, three women who achieved extraordinary  feats in aviation against great adversity in different time frames ranging from the 1920’s 1930’s and 1980’s. \nCast includes Melanie Beddie\,  Kirsty Child\, Kirsty Snowdon and Diana Greentree and directed by Melissa Bruce. \nThe Other Place by Christopher Bryant – Tuesday 27 September\n‘I wonder if she felt she saw the reality… that it’s all a play within a play.’ \nCarlton\, 1967. Schoolteacher Betty Burstall returns to Melbourne from New York\, and begins sketching plans for what will eventually become La Mama Theatre. \nStratford-upon-Avon\, 1975. Politically charged director Buzz Goodbody – founder of the Royal Shakespeare Company’s The Other Place\, a theatre of new\, experimental and unseen theatre – is about to begin rehearsing her production of Hamlet. Both women are attempting to drag their surroundings into the future and reshape the world’s artistic landscape. One of them is about to end her life. \nThe Other Place is a theatrical and philosophical rumination on two influential women: the ways their lives were mirrored in the theatre they produced\, the misogyny they experienced\, and the lives they changed\, even in death. \nCast: Freya Pragt as Buzz Goodbody\, and Penelope Bartlau as Betty Burstall \n[/vc_column_text][/vc_tta_section][vc_tta_section title=”Bios” tab_id=”1469519349267-07a093ea-4a74″][vc_column_text]\nChloe Armstrong\nOriginally trained as a classical dancer\, Chloe has a long history working in theatre. From age 11-15\, she toured South America\, Thailand and Indonesia with Handspan Theatre’s award-winning production of Picasso’s Four Little Girls directed by Ariette Taylor. Chloe was a founding member of the acclaimed collaboration\, the Keene Taylor Theatre Project\, and appeared in many of its productions (including Ninth Moon for the 1999 Melbourne International Festival in which the role of ‘Chloe’ was created for her). She has also worked with several other leading theatre companies including Melbourne and Sydney Theatre Companies and Bell Shakespeare. Chloe has also appeared in a number of television drama series and feature films. She is also a solicitor and currently studying for the bar exam. Bound is Chloe’s first play. \nSusie Anderson\nSusie began her working life as a children’s show presenter in the early days of television and then for many years as a freelance writer. During  a TAFE  College writing workshop with Alex Miller\, she wrote  her first play The Note\, a one-hander with Marion Heathfield  that played at Theatre Works in St Kilda. With encouragement and support from Malcolm Robertson her second play\, The Journey\, was work-shopped at The Malthouse Theatre and went on to be performed at The Stables Theatre\, Sydney. Too Close to the Sun is inspired by conversations with Australian aviators Nancy Bird and Gaby Kennard and Susie’s fascination with both the reality and metaphor of flying. The play’s development is supported by the Malcolm Robertson Foundation. \nChristopher Bryant\nChristopher is a Griffin Award nominated playwright (Home Invasion\, 2015) and NIDA graduate (Master of Fine Arts (Writing for Performance)\, 2014) who has worked with a range of companies including Malthouse Theatre\, MKA\, ATYP\, Apocalypse Theatre\, La Mama\, ACPA and Monash University. Recent work includes his “searing piece” 63 Days (Lisa Thatcher) in Apocalypse Theatre’s ASYLUM\, his “spit-roasting\, brain-splattering\, offal-eating” Third Reich Mommie (AussieTheatre\, 2014) which was also published by Playlab\, and The Mutant Man\, which was shortlisted for both Belvoir’s Philip Parsons Playwriting Fellowship in 2014 & the Arch and Bruce Brown Foundation’s Playwriting Competition in 2015\, making him the first Australian nominee in the award’s history. In early 2016 his “talented and thoughtful” play Intoxication played to sold-out audiences at the La Mama Courthouse in the Midsumma Festival.
