Some of these artworks are created without specific references\, while others are inspired by poses crafted with the help of live models. A few pieces take on an abstract style\, incorporating representational elements to establish a deep psychological connection with the subject’s pose and their innermost\, private movements. \nThese paintings aim to capture personal and private states\, reminding viewers of the joy and significance found in expressive human movement and the accompanying psychological experience. \nIn recent years\, I’ve embarked on a journey of rediscovery in my artistic process. Drawing from my previous experience\, I sought to reinvent myself while embracing artistic growth. This led me to engage with performance artists from different parts of the world\, forming creative relationships that influenced the direction of my work. This shift allowed me to explore new themes and approaches. \nPrimavera\, named after the season of spring\, represents both the darkness and coldness as well as the promise of warmth and sunlight. As an artist\, I believe in the importance of describing the world using various stylistic methods\, even if it means venturing beyond my comfort zone and challenging my understanding. I resist the limitations of predefined ideas or singular moments. \nBy experimenting with different compositions\, I manipulate abstract elements such as light and colour to incorporate both representational and nonrepresentational aspects in each piece. This guides the viewer into the essence of the chosen pose and establishes a connection. Through collaboration with subjects\, studio photography\, and drawings\, I bring together the materials and forms\, creating a unified theme. I work primarily with oil paint to capture the tactile quality of skin\, while drawing inspiration from various sources to play with the element of light in my paintings. \nApproaching figure and expression from an abstract perspective\, I aim to present the subject matter in a fresh and unfamiliar visual treatment\, inviting viewers to perceive it in new and compelling ways.[/vc_column_text][/vc_tta_section][vc_tta_section title=”Artist’s Bio” tab_id=”1518320329651-b769a1a3-29e6905c-b0b3368e-b9ef2edb-f0663f53-0933″][vc_column_text]John Mezzini’s CV \nExhibitions \n1994                      Graduates Exhibition group exhibition \n2019                       45 Downstairs solo “E lascia dir le genti” \n2019                       Art Basel Switzerland top 100 artworks “Ad Apicem” \n2019                       Art Box Miami \n2019                      Emerge Brunswick st Gallery – group exhibition \n2021                      45 Downstairs solo “mɔ.nuˈmɛn̪.t̪um” Postponed to January 2022 \n2021                      Primo Red group Exhibition – C&H gallery \n2021                      Here again 45 Downstairs online group exhibition \n2021                      Aliorum portrait Exhibition – POME gallery \n2022                       45 Downstairs solo “Monumentum” \n2022                       RED Exhibition – POME gallery \nMedia \nMay 2019 Sunday Age – Art Sunday promotion solo exhibition “ELascia dir le Genti” \nApril 2019 Art Almanac promotion “ELascia dir le Genti” \nJune 2019 News fox Switzerland Australian Artist Awarded “Ad Apicem” \nNovember 2019 Penthouse Magazine online – Print Feb 2020 “the Artist and the Muse” \nApril 2020 Recorder south Australia “artist roller coaster” \nJanuary 2022 Penthouse Magazine online “the Artist and the Muse” \nApril 2022 Last post Magazine “Artist John Mezzini” \nSocials \nFacebook: johnmezzinart \nInstagram: jmezz1974[/vc_column_text][/vc_tta_section][/vc_tta_tabs][/vc_column][/vc_row]

Her first solo exhibition Surfaces explores the relationship between the physical action of mark making\, and the role of the unconscious mind that drives it.  Brilliant colours are applied with both vigorous and controlled movements\, utilizing the medium of abstraction as an interpreter of unconscious dialogue. \nThe use of multiple mediums such as acrylic\, pastel and collage\, using a palette knife to both liberally apply paint and scratch it off again\, creates layers of intense colour and texture. Using this process of application and reduction produces dense and energetic imagery that bears a strong emotive quality. \nPaintings are given the space to evolve in both style and form. This freedom encourages each work to emerge from a place of constant experimentation and reconfiguration\, creating an aesthetic based on a rich narrative of joy\, energy and vigour. \nThree dimensional works visually echo the density displayed within each painting\, however when viewed within a spatial context\, becomes an immersive environment in which the materiality of the work begins to dictate and seep into the space. \nA vibrant palette often thrown and splashed over surfaces and refined by considered mark making results in imagery that pulsates with energy\, triggering a contemplation of the subconscious mind driving these impulses and actions. Just as our own psyche is built upon layers of experience\, so is this collection of work.[/vc_column_text][/vc_tta_section][vc_tta_section title=”Artist’s Bio” tab_id=”1451285630325-09def419-bb74b1db-6de139d6-9b24″][vc_column_text]Aimee Rytenskild is a visual artist from Melbourne\, Australia. Aimee completed a Bachelor of Fine Arts at RMIT in 2015\, majoring in Sculpture. Her practice spans across a range of mediums\, including painting\, sculpture\, installation\, video and sound. Aimee’s work explores themes of femininity\, materiality and the autobiographical. Inspired by the lush and emotive imagery that came out of the Abstract Expressionist movement\, Aimee creates large scale work that aims to immerse the viewer in a vivid and energetic atmosphere of colours and textures.[/vc_column_text][/vc_tta_section][/vc_tta_tabs][/vc_column][/vc_row]

It is inspired by the overlaying of the shadows of the past and the foreshadowing of the future which are in evidence in our cities\, towns and countryside. \nWhat may appear to be\, on first sight\, an empty landscape carries within it deep indigenous knowledge and culture\, stories of creation and landforms. \nPeople moved through this landscape for many thousands of years treading lightly on the land and taking care of it. \nContrast the impact of human development on landscape\, the tilled fields of Vietnam\, the urban landscape of the city\, the cleared hills of Gippsland where native vegetation has been replaced by imported grasses and windbreaks of cypress trees. \nThe severe impact of a few hundred years of anthropogenic climate change\, compared to millennia of humankind walking lightly on the land which is a part of them\, taking only what is necessary\, taking care of the source of all being.[/vc_column_text][/vc_tta_section][vc_tta_section title=”Artist’s Bio” tab_id=”1451285630325-09def419-bb74b1db-6de1d821-e8b5″][vc_column_text]Artist/architect Geoffrey Falk began drawing and painting seriously during his architecture studies at RMIT. The course in those days had a strong emphasis on hand drawing\, model making and painting. \nGeoffrey’s work has a wider public element through his practice as an architect\, urban designer and illustrator. The imagery is symbolic and informed by her 6-week residency in Athens and Skopelos\, Greece\, where she set out to investigate cross cultural symbols of fortune\, mythology and history. Inspired by a range of influences during the residency including ancient Minoan ceramics\, Byzantine paintings\, site-specific folkloric tales and ancestral stories\, she has produced a suite of images that offer the viewer an insight into the artistic process from initial ideas to experimentation\, synthesis and generation of works; moving from flux to stasis and back again. \nJosephine Fagan is a cross disciplinary artist and educator\, practicing since 1999.[/vc_column_text][/vc_tta_section][/vc_tta_tabs][/vc_column][/vc_row]

What if they could earn an income by selling merchandise with their art on it\, such as phone covers\, tea towels\, puzzles or greeting cards? \nOpen Canvas was created to empower disadvantaged artists and help them with these issues. \nThe artists we help are from a range of backgrounds. Some have lived on the street; some have experienced substance abuse and addiction; some are on low incomes within supported and crisis accommodation; and others live with mental health issues and disability. All are united in their desire to be recognised through their art. \nWhen you buy art from Open Canvas\, you are making a positive impact on the lives of these artists. They are empowered through recognition of their talent and a sense of achievement. Artists also receive a minimum of 70 per cent of profits from your purchase\, providing them with a source of income. \nBy helping artists sell prints and other products\, Open Canvas provides artists with the opportunity for repeat income once their original artwork is sold. \nOpen Canvas can also help artists in other ways. For some\, not having basic art supplies – a brush\, a canvas\, paint – limits their ability to do art. Other artists benefit from mentoring and guidance from professional artists\, to take their art to the next level. Open Canvas can help artists in these ways by facilitating mentoring opportunities and providing art supplies. \nWe also seek out other opportunities for artists\, including opportunities to exhibit their work and engage with other third parties through\, for example\, commissions and licensing of artwork. \nSource: opencanvas.com.au[/vc_column_text][/vc_tta_section][/vc_tta_tabs][/vc_column][/vc_row]

This exhibition features works from emerging Indonesian artists exemplifying the dynamism of contemporary art beyond Baliseering\, or in present-day expression\, beyond the ‘traditional art’ Bali is famously promoted and known for internationally. \nThe policy of ‘Baliseering’ was first introduced in the 1920s by the Dutch colonial government to train locals to continue the traditional arts of dance\, theatre\, painting\, sculpture and literature. Visually\, this meant that art portrayed scenes of the Balinese in cultural activities and ‘authentic’ settings that fastened in the Balinese art identity through media and tourism. This exhibition will feature works of art from 11 contemporary Indonesian artists beyond the boundaries of baliseering\, tackling themes of personal life experiences\, environmental\, social and political issues that may focus within the Indonesian context but resonates to the global stage. Crossing: Beyond Baliseering aims to highlight the artistic and thought-provoking talents of Indonesian artists and create a platform in understanding contemporary Balinese and Indonesian culture maintaining a cultural bridge between Indonesia and Australia. \nCrossing: Beyond Baliseering comprises an extraordinary range of paintings\, photography\, sculptures\, and large-scale installations exploring and reflecting Bali’s visual and social culture in the contemporary society. The exhibition will include works from Art of Whatever\, Aswino Aji \, Budi Agung Kuswara (Kabul)\, Citra Sasmita\, I Made Suarimbawa (Dalbo)\, Kemal Ezedine\, Natisa Jones\, Slinat\, Valasara\, Wayan Upadana\, and Yoesoef Olla. \nThis exhibition is presented by Project 11 as part of Multicultural Arts Victoria’s Asian contemporary arts festival Mapping Melbourne 2016. The artists will be in Melbourne for an artist talk on Wednesday 7 December 2016\, Yasuko Hiraoka Myer Room\, Sidney Myer Asia Centre\, University of Melbourne. \nImages courtesy Project 11.[/vc_column_text][/vc_tta_section][/vc_tta_tabs][/vc_column][/vc_row]

From the alleys and laneways to the architecture\, the food culture and street art\, the buzz and hype\, the energy and the anticipation of seeing something that you may have been blind to before\, are all part of the heart of the city. \nSt. Kilda sits just south of the city. Travelling over the bay to the artist’s studio on the Mornington Peninsula\, there is an obvious beauty of the landscape\, the ocean\, the bays and the country side. However\, this is not what Jenkins is drawn to.
