At first glance the scene looked very orderly\, but on closer observation\, some were taller\, others looked sad or not well\, and a few seemed to be asking for water. \nThrough the trees and their surroundings\, Brunhuber projects the organised way we live our lives… but what might be happening behind the apparent orderliness? Brunhuber’s sketches and other paintings included in the exhibition come from a similar reflection on everyday life – things he sees and inspires him on a day-to-day basis.[/vc_column_text][/vc_tta_section][vc_tta_section title=”Artist’s Bio” tab_id=”1451285630325-09def419-bb74b1db-6de15ce1-ddb7″][vc_column_text]From an early age\, Josef Brunhuber has been greatly interested in drawing and painting but it is only recently – since turning 71 in fact – that he has pursued it full time\, and with great passion. \nJosef grew up in Austria\, where his father was his early teacher in drawing. Urged to keep developing his artistic talents\, he often recalls his father’s gentle hints that he should take up painting and\, when he was 15\, being presented with a storage box for his paints\, handcrafted especially for him. \nJosef’s focus however\, turned to design\, and after training in that area of the arts he came to Australia at the age of 24. Here he found work and gradually established himself as an interior architect and exhibition designer\, becoming a partner at the largest exhibition design company in Victoria and later setting up his own practice\, Metaphor Design. \nDuring that time Josef also studied interior design part-time at RMIT University\, and lectured there in the faculty of architecture and building\, passing on to 3rd Year students some of the things he had learnt over the years about design\, furniture design and building construction. \nThough busily engaged in his commercial career\, Josef always maintained his interest in fine art\, attending a number of drawing and painting courses\, including being accepted into a six-week masterclass in Monte Castella\, Umbria in 2007. \nSince that sojourn\, the lure of painting has overshadowed his commercial work\, and a year ago\, a trip to Tasmania became the turning point. It was there he met the notable artist\, Luke Wagner\, and it was he who gave Josef the inspiration and confidence to take up painting full time. \nAnd now\, after a long and winding road\, he is fulfilling his father’s wishes at last.[/vc_column_text][/vc_tta_section][/vc_tta_tabs][/vc_column][/vc_row]
