Some of these artworks are created without specific references\, while others are inspired by poses crafted with the help of live models. A few pieces take on an abstract style\, incorporating representational elements to establish a deep psychological connection with the subject’s pose and their innermost\, private movements. \nThese paintings aim to capture personal and private states\, reminding viewers of the joy and significance found in expressive human movement and the accompanying psychological experience. \nIn recent years\, I’ve embarked on a journey of rediscovery in my artistic process. Drawing from my previous experience\, I sought to reinvent myself while embracing artistic growth. This led me to engage with performance artists from different parts of the world\, forming creative relationships that influenced the direction of my work. This shift allowed me to explore new themes and approaches. \nPrimavera\, named after the season of spring\, represents both the darkness and coldness as well as the promise of warmth and sunlight. As an artist\, I believe in the importance of describing the world using various stylistic methods\, even if it means venturing beyond my comfort zone and challenging my understanding. I resist the limitations of predefined ideas or singular moments. \nBy experimenting with different compositions\, I manipulate abstract elements such as light and colour to incorporate both representational and nonrepresentational aspects in each piece. This guides the viewer into the essence of the chosen pose and establishes a connection. Through collaboration with subjects\, studio photography\, and drawings\, I bring together the materials and forms\, creating a unified theme. I work primarily with oil paint to capture the tactile quality of skin\, while drawing inspiration from various sources to play with the element of light in my paintings. \nApproaching figure and expression from an abstract perspective\, I aim to present the subject matter in a fresh and unfamiliar visual treatment\, inviting viewers to perceive it in new and compelling ways.[/vc_column_text][/vc_tta_section][vc_tta_section title=”Artist’s Bio” tab_id=”1518320329651-b769a1a3-29e6905c-b0b3368e-b9ef2edb-f0663f53-0933″][vc_column_text]John Mezzini’s CV \nExhibitions \n1994                      Graduates Exhibition group exhibition \n2019                       45 Downstairs solo “E lascia dir le genti” \n2019                       Art Basel Switzerland top 100 artworks “Ad Apicem” \n2019                       Art Box Miami \n2019                      Emerge Brunswick st Gallery – group exhibition \n2021                      45 Downstairs solo “mɔ.nuˈmɛn̪.t̪um” Postponed to January 2022 \n2021                      Primo Red group Exhibition – C&H gallery \n2021                      Here again 45 Downstairs online group exhibition \n2021                      Aliorum portrait Exhibition – POME gallery \n2022                       45 Downstairs solo “Monumentum” \n2022                       RED Exhibition – POME gallery \nMedia \nMay 2019 Sunday Age – Art Sunday promotion solo exhibition “ELascia dir le Genti” \nApril 2019 Art Almanac promotion “ELascia dir le Genti” \nJune 2019 News fox Switzerland Australian Artist Awarded “Ad Apicem” \nNovember 2019 Penthouse Magazine online – Print Feb 2020 “the Artist and the Muse” \nApril 2020 Recorder south Australia “artist roller coaster” \nJanuary 2022 Penthouse Magazine online “the Artist and the Muse” \nApril 2022 Last post Magazine “Artist John Mezzini” \nSocials \nFacebook: johnmezzinart \nInstagram: jmezz1974[/vc_column_text][/vc_tta_section][/vc_tta_tabs][/vc_column][/vc_row]

The resulting works move the viewer into the orchestrated pattern of the chosen gesture or expression. \nMezzini collaborated with his performance artist subjects in terms of pose\, style and resulting shapes\, as well as utilising studio photography and drawings in the creation of these paintings. mɔ.nuˈmɛn̪.t̪um is the result of this coherent theme and statement.[/vc_column_text][/vc_tta_section][vc_tta_section title=”Artist’s Bio” tab_id=”1518320329651-b769a1a3-29e6905c-b0b3368e-b9ef2edb-f0663f53-09334f03-16b4″][vc_column_text]An engineer by trade\, John Mezzini has recently returned to painting after studying at the North Adelaide School of Arts over twenty years ago. After encouragement from friends and a renewed enjoyment of the process\, Mezzini began again. He first exhibited E lascia dir le genti  at fortyfivedownstairs in 2019. \nSince then\, Mezzini has participated in SWISSARTEXPO\, and was placed in the top 100 artworks of the fair. He has also shown work at Art Box Miami\, and was part of the group show Emerge at Brunwick Street Gallery\, both in 2019. Mezzini reminds the viewer of meaningful personal connections indelibly imprinted and active in the formulation of who we see ourselves to be. \nAn engineer by trade\, Mezzini has recently returned to painting after studying at the North Adelaide School of Arts over twenty years ago. Mezzini has dabbled in the arts in the intervening years\, notably as a musician. His interest in painting never really subsided\, but neither did he fully commit himself to it. After encouragement from friends and a renewed enjoyment of the process\, Mezzini began again. \nInitially working within his previous area of experience\, abstraction\, Mezzini began to re-educate himself\, discovering new interests in the impressionist period and modern Russian artists. This changed his focus\, adapting the principles of the material to further the development of his own practice. \nMezzini believes the interpretation of his artwork is the responsibility of the viewer. His process is to encourage\, not dictate. Closing in on the subjects in the compositions allows Mezzini to manipulate the refractive elements of light\, with the intention of allowing the viewer to interpret the gestures and expressions of his central figures. Mezzini utilises found imagery\, personal photos and drawings as starting points for his paintings\, linking them to a coherent theme. Introducing elements of figurative and expressionist styles\, with an academic grounding in abstraction\, has given this series a raw and unscripted feel\, creating new and unfamiliar visual treatments of the subject matter. \nE lascia dir le genti is John Mezzini’s first solo exhibition\, and runs at fortyfivedownstairs from 4 – 15 June 2019.[/vc_column_text][/vc_tta_section][/vc_tta_tabs][/vc_column][/vc_row]
