Not to mention a rubber chicken or two… \nThrough the classical form of the ‘concerto’\, connections are explored between different worlds: solo/ ensemble\, classical/jazz\, instruments/ toys and serious/humorous. The work is also informed by the concept that these contrasts are the opposite ends of the same pole. \nThis is a rare opportunity for lovers of jazz\, classical and avant garde music\, and people of all ages who enjoy live music. Children are welcome and if are under 12 can see the concert for free. \nThis project has been assisted by the Australian Government through the Australia Council for the Arts\, its arts funding and advisory body and is supported by the Victorian Government through Creative Victoria. \n  \n [/vc_column_text][/vc_tta_section][vc_tta_section title=”Artists” tab_id=”1452941644640-19a0de81-e87a0201-342dcb0a-2ec9a177-581a2513-a5c5d413-dcbb”][vc_column_text]Michael Kieran Harvey – piano soloist \nAdam Simmons Creative Music Ensemble:\nAdam Simmons – sopranino/baritone saxophones\, composer\nGideon Brazil – tenor saxophone\nCara Taber – alto saxophone\nGemma Horbury – trumpet\nGavin Cornish – trumpet\nBryn Hills – trombone\nHoward Cairns – double bass\nHugh Harvey – drums[/vc_column_text][/vc_tta_section][vc_tta_section title=”The Series” tab_id=”1485306753515-ca10d8c9-63b2″][vc_column_text]Concert 2: The Usefulness of Art\n24 – 27 August \nThis suite celebrates the qualities that art helps engender\, including acceptance\, empathy\, generosity\, compassion and faith. “The Usefulness of Art” has previously been performed and recorded by Origami as a trio and as a solo work for MONA FOMA. Expanding the work for the much larger Adam Simmons Creative Music Ensemble builds upon the contemplative nature of the music\, bringing in a more ecstatic experience as well. Read more. \nConcert 3: Travelling Tales\n7-10 December \nThis will be the Melbourne premiere performance of Adam Simmons’ “Travelling Tales\,” a suite composed and performed for the 2013 Piraeus Festival in Athens\, Greece with Intrarti Orchestra. The music is influenced by a mix of Adam’s road trips around Australia\, European travels\, his love of Japanese shakuhachi music and his belief in the usefulness of art. The experiences\, sounds and concepts come together to create musical landscapes and images\, both panoramic and up close.
