This can be heard from the very opening bars of Beethoven’s late Piano Sonata Op. 90. The two movements of this sonata were described by Beethoven’s biographer Schindler as ‘a struggle between the heart and the head\, and a conversation with the beloved’. Chopin’s haunting Nocturne Op. 48 No. 1 follows\, which contrasts immense beauty and lyricism against ferocious octave passages. Liszt knew these works well and performed them regularly\, and their influence can be heard in his gigantic Sonata in B minor. He has played in major venues in Australia\, Europe and China\, including the Wigmore Hall\, and St Martin in the Fields\, London\, amongst many others. His mentors have included François-Frédéric Guy and Leslie Howard.
