This can be heard from the very opening bars of Beethoven’s late Piano Sonata Op. 90. The two movements of this sonata were described by Beethoven’s biographer Schindler as ‘a struggle between the heart and the head\, and a conversation with the beloved’. Chopin’s haunting Nocturne Op. 48 No. 1 follows\, which contrasts immense beauty and lyricism against ferocious octave passages. Liszt knew these works well and performed them regularly\, and their influence can be heard in his gigantic Sonata in B minor. The extra musical narrative of which is often considered to be the legend of Faust and the moral conflicts it represents.[/vc_column_text][/vc_tta_section][vc_tta_section title=”Artist Biography” tab_id=”1452941644640-19a0de81-e87a0201-342dcb0a-2ec9a177-581a2513-a5c51f1f-8993a3c4-5ca5cb85-3d54189f-4d6f8ba6-b9f1d0f9-59ba”][vc_column_text]Tristan Lee is an Australian pianist internationally recognized\, and critically acclaimed\, for his distinctive recitals and recordings. The composition was published in 1802 and was dedicated to Beethoven’s pupil and passion\, 17 years old Countess Giulietta Gucciardi. Sadly\, Beethoven emotions were not reciprocated\, but his feelings found expression in what is perhaps the most famous piano sonata ever written. \nThe Sonatas of op. 31 were written between 1801-1802 and they demonstrate the multiple possibilities offered by the sonata form. They have a very powerful contrasting character. The first sonata has a crystalline character with a style very close to that of Haydn. The Opus 31 works are the first examples of Beethoven’s new and unconventional ideas\, and explore the composer’s wonderful sense of humour\, wit and irony. \nPiano Sonata No 23   ‘Appassionata’  was composed in 1804 a year after Beethoven came to grips with perhaps his greatest tragedy\, the irreversible and progressive loss of hearing.  One of his greatest and most technically challenging piano sonatas\, the ‘Appassionata’ was considered by Beethoven to be his most tempestuous piano sonata up to that date.[/vc_column_text][/vc_tta_section][vc_tta_section title=”Bio” tab_id=”1452941644640-19a0de81-e87a0201-342dcb0a-2ec9a177-581a2513-a5c56dd9-ebe2″][vc_column_text]Gintaute Gataveckaite is an award-winning pianist from Lithuania. She is currently living in Melbourne\, where she is enjoying a busy performing schedule\, and studying a Masters of Music at the University of Melbourne under Prof Ian Holtham. Miss Gataveckaite is a graduate of the Royal Northern College of Music\, Manchester U.K.\, having gained a Bachelor of Music Performance (with Distinction) in 2012 under the tutelage of Graham Scott. \nMiss Gataveckaite\, acclaimed both locally and internationally\, has performed regularly throughout Australia\, the U.K.\, Europe\, and China as a soloist\, chamber musician and concerto soloist. Highlights include performances at the Wigmore Hall and the Southbank Centre in London\, Melbourne Recital Centre\, Guangzhou Opera House\, Shanghai Daning Theatre\, and many more. \nTristan Lee is an Australian pianist rapidly gaining international recognition for his distinctive style and musicianship. Recent highlights have included performances of concertos by Mozart\, Beethoven\, Brahms\, Grieg and Rachmaninoff; and solo recitals throughout UK\, Italy\, Lithuania\, France\, the Netherlands\, Cuba\, China and Australia.  Widely sought as a chamber musician he has appeared twice at the Wigmore Hall\, London to critical acclaim. As a keen interpreter of contemporary music\, he regularly performs music of the present day and has given numerous world premieres of works by leading British and Australian composers. \nAfter completing his formal studies in Europe\, Tristan Lee has been mentored by Leslie Howard and Benjamin Frith\, and between 2012 and 2014 he undertook a period of study with renowned French pianist\, François-Frédéric Guy in Paris. Tristan Lee is currently completing a PhD at the Melbourne Conservatorium of Music\, University of Melbourne\, where he also holds the positions of Piano Teacher and Academic Assistant.[/vc_column_text][/vc_tta_section][vc_tta_section title=”Ticket Prices and Concessions” tab_id=”1452941768731-94b426f3-57530201-342dcb0a-2ec9a177-581a2513-a5c56dd9-ebe2″][vc_column_text]\nTicket Prices:\nFull: $40\,\nConcession: $35\,\nGroup 6+: $35 \nConcessions:\nPensioners/Full-time students/MEAA members[/vc_column_text][/vc_tta_section][/vc_tta_tabs][vc_empty_space]Buy Tickets [/vc_column][/vc_row]
