And\, in some cases\, they almost were. \n“In the years since\, I have watched them grow and spread their wings\, unfettered by commercial obligations and the often destructive whims of the people who held the purse-strings. \n“As a lifelong art observer and collector\, I am proud to have spread my wings to bring together\, for the first time\, 21 top creatives from what has been called the Golden Age of advertising and design. \n“Be surprised.” \nThe artists of 21AD are: Dena Ashbolt\, Bruce Baldwin\, David Blackley\, John Boucher\, Maree Coote\, Mimmo Cozzolino\, Jane Flowers\, Di Gameson\, Prue Kirkcaldie\, Guy Lamothe\, Jo Lane\, Michel Lawrence\, Ron Mather\, Paul Meehan\, Ted Powell\, Mike Reed\, Fysh Rutherford\, Paul Torcello\, Gordon Trembath\, John Wheeler\, and Keran Woods. \nCurated by the legendary film editor / street photographer Mike Reed\, the 21AD exhibition is on at fortyfivedownstairs\, 45 Flinders Lane\, Melbourne; March 8-19\, 2022. \n  \n\nEXHIBITION CATALOGUE PDF[/vc_column_text][/vc_tta_section][vc_tta_section title=”Programming” tab_id=”1646874111588-92deed86-66ed”][vc_column_text]Artist Talk with Dr. Dena Ashbolt\, Saturday 19 March 11am \nMediated by Tessa Spooner (Gallery Manager) \nAbout the Artist \nDena Ashbolt is a perceptual artist whose cinematic drawing technique consistently engages with time\, its flow and passing. Her interdisciplinary practice includes drawing and painting\, printmaking\, filmmaking\, photo-media\, and collaborative performance projects. \nBorn in London\, Ashbolt graduated with First Class Honours in Film and Photography at the University of Westminster. In 1987 she emigrated to Melbourne\, establishing a long successful career in film as a performance director; experience that continues to inform her process and sensitive\, collaborative approach for clients seeking private art commissions. In 2015 she obtained a doctorate in Fine Art from Monash University. \nAshbolt’s studio practice is a consideration of cinematic drawing: drawing in response to the flow of time\, and its revelations to collective and individual human experience. Her work has been exhibited with the Arts Council (England)\, Royal Academy summer Exhibition (London)\, Ballarat Art Gallery\, Bendigo Art Gallery and she has presented numerous solo exhibitions in Melbourne\, Canada and Europe. \nAbout Tessa Spooner \nTessa is a senior arts manager with over 15 years industry experience in theatre and the visual arts\, dedicated to promoting independent arts and furthering the reach of artists and their vision.
