Operatic superstar Antoinette Halloran is one of Australia’s leading sopranos, continuously performing in the most prominent venues within Australia and abroad. She is joined by renowned concert pianist Coady Green for an evening of art song and cabaret, including the world-premiere of Linda Kouvaras’ major new song cycle She Who Should Have Been a Queen, based on Halloran’s own original poetry, and supported by a generous grant from City of Melbourne.

In this major new cycle, Halloran and Kouvaras re-imagine famous heroines from opera and song from a contemporary feminist perspective, with sometimes humorous and often profoundly moving results. The program also features Ned Rorem’s devastatingly powerful suite Ariel for soprano, clarinet, and piano, on the poetry of Sylvia Plath, and the evocative solo piano Bundanon Suite by Kouvaras, that delves into stories from the Bundanon Estate on the Shoalhaven River, and explores the relationship between humankind and nature. With special guest Jeffrey Rosenfeld on clarinet.
