Selected from images taken in Europe and Australia, Melbourne-based queer artist Eureka (Michael James O’Hanlon) juxtaposes the male figure on found architectural backgrounds.
He reveals a new perspective on a classical subject, confronting contemporary anxieties about the naked male form.
Michael James O’Hanlon is a queer Melbourne based artist who exhibits regularly in group exhibitions.
In 2014 he undertook a three month residency with the Agora Collective in Berlin. His most recent exhibitions have been at the RED Gallery Fitzroy North Thousand Pound Bend Gallery, CBD Melbourne and Rosalyn Smorgon Gallery Footscray, Joel Gallery Altona, and the Convent Gallery Daylesford, all in the State of Victoria, Australia.
He studied at Footscray Community Arts Centre from 2007-9 achieving a Certificate in Further Education Art Studies. His course included foundation studies, cultural perspectives cross media applications and contemporary art practice. Michael also has a Bachelor of Arts, Melbourne and Auckland Universities, Bachelor of Social Work Melbourne University and a Masters of Business, Victoria University. He is a professional Member of the National Association of Visual Arts Australia.
