During the end of 2019 and the beginning of 2020, bushfires ravaged much of our country. The aftermath was devastating and thoughts of recovery seemed out of our control.

To make sense of it all, Gavin Brown painted an artwork and called it ‘After the Fire’. From devastation, he created beauty.

Shortly afterwards, the coronavirus pandemic arrived in Australia, forcing the country into lockdown. Brown spent a lot of this time in his studio, looking outward. Once again, everything appeared to look so ugly.

In response to this, Brown has explored the regrowth of Australia’s flowering gums and native flowers. From the confines of his small studio, he set about making beautiful things out of that devastating time.

With over 25 solo and group exhibitions both nationally and internationally, Gavin Brown’s work is held in collections including the Victoria and Albert Museum (London), The Powerhouse (Sydney), and the National Gallery of Victoria (Melbourne).

Brown has recently been featured in a number of national and international publications including The Cool Hunter, The Design Files, UK’s Idol Magazine and Romanian magazine LUXERY.
