43 Miles South as the bird flies is a body of work that artist Andrea Jenkins been developing over the past three years, connecting the city to her studio on the Mornington Peninsula.

Melbourne city has long been the inspiration of Jenkins’ work. From the alleys and laneways to the architecture, the food culture and street art, the buzz and hype, the energy and the anticipation of seeing something that you may have been blind to before, are all part of the heart of the city.

St. Kilda sits just south of the city. Travelling over the bay to the artist’s studio on the Mornington Peninsula, there is an obvious beauty of the landscape, the ocean, the bays and the country side. However, this is not what Jenkins is drawn to. She has discovered aspects not for their immediate beauty, but for their intrigue and finding magnificence that is less apparent: in the structure, their form and symmetry, or the changes in surface that have developed over time.

Andrea Jenkins is a Melbourne-based artist.

Working mainly in the mediums of painting and drawing, her studio on the Morning Peninsula and forays into the city are a source of constant inspiration.

Jenkins has exhibited widely in Victoria, Australia, and is represented in private collections in Australia, Japan, Switzerland and Scotland.
