Returning for a fourth year, The Community Art Card Project aims to provide an opportunity for the CBD Melbourne community, students, and artists to engage in collaborative art making using large playing cards as their canvas to create an installation in the gallery of fortyfivedownstairs.
The project will be facilitated by artist, Robert Lee Davis and students from St Michael’s Grammar School. The project is supported by St Michael’s Grammar School.

Born in Virginia, USA Robert is a Melbourne-based artist who has lived and worked as an artist-in-residence, consultant and arts educator in China, Egypt, USA, UK and Australia. Working across painting and collage the artist has held group and solo exhibitions in China and Australia including We Know Where We Want to Go – Bu Wen Bu Wen, (YK Art Space, Shanghai, China ), Different Species (ifa Gallery, Shanghai, China), Then, Now and Everything In-Between, (fortyfivedownstairs, Melbourne) and Home Free, (Angela Robarts Bird Gallery, Gasworks, Melbourne ).
Robert has been a finalist in the Collie Art Prize in Perth, the Glover Prize for Tasmanian landscape painting in Launceston, and received a grant from the City of Melbourne for his project: Small Wonders, The Places We No Longer Go. Robert has undertaken numerous commissions using art to tell family & individual stories through his Life Landscape series.
Continually collecting conversations and images from the people and places he encounters, the artist constructs deeply personal artworks tracking his journey and the journey of those he comes across.
